A really stunning Imperial Russian solid silver inkwell made by the important Russian house of Pavel Ovchinnikov, Moscow 1844. The firm was granted an Imperial warrant to supply the royal family and court. The assayers mark is AK and the inkwell also bears the Zolotnik 84 mark and the Eagle.

(Zolotnik 84 is the most commonly used grade of silver being 875 parts per thousand). The well is adourned with two rats one bearing a knife and the other a hatchet (how cute) one side has the Imperial Russian Eagle and the other a hunting scene. The piece weighs 230g and measures 10.5 cm wide x 9.4 cm tall.
