Up for your consideration rare antique mid-19C Imperial Russian Yaroslavl school Icon depicting mother of God in 84 enameled silver oklad, decorated with stones. The Yaroslavl icon painting school is an artistic phenomenon of Russian art in the second half of the 16th - 17th centuries.
It took shape and developed in the final period of the history of ancient Russian art, and therefore in many ways summed up the seven-century development of Russian icon painting. The school was formed on the basis of the local artistic tradition that existed in Yaroslavl in the 13th - 15th centuries.
Provenance - Collection of Mary G. Roebling; 1997 receipt from Karen & David Dutch Antiques. And assay mark which is hard to identify. Excellent condition, consistent with age and time.
