Petersburg Imperial Russian Porcelain Propaganda Cup Porzellan Tasse. This product data sheet is originally written in English. A rare porcelain cup made by the famous St. Petersburg Imperial factory during their most famous period. The blank cup was made around 1891 during the reign of Tsar Alexander III as Emperor of Russia and decorated in 1922. During this period was some of the coolest decoration to porcelain was made at the factory. It is often called the Suprematism or avant garde period of the late 19th and early 20th century.

The cup has a typical shape for this maker which is very similar to earlier Paris porcelain shaped except for the handle terminal. It has a gold trim to the top edge but the best part is the hand painted design in all black. It has a Propaganda design including four masks with a basket filled with fruit in the middle with some more fruit and leaves all around. The piece is marked with the Saint Petersburg, Russia, under glaze green mark Czar Alexander III 91 for 1891, black hammer and sickle and cogwheel mark 1922 with the letter c after it (I think) and N = 238/64, N 238/22.

Two green dots on the foot ring inside typical for authentic pieces but not sure what they represent. The decoration is after Sergei Chekhonin. The piece is in perfect condition but it is sadly missing its saucer. Any simple gold trim Paris saucer would fit perfectly with it though! The cup is 2.5 inches tall with a diameter of 2.625 inches.
