Bibelot is a late nineteenth century word derived from the French word bel beautiful, meaning a small item of beauty, curiosity or interest. The word ephemera is derived from the sixteenth century Greek word ephmera meaning a printed or hand written paper not meant to be retained for a long period of time. Fine antique Russian imperial standard flag printed with the double headed eagle of the Russian Empire. The flag has some staining to the upper left hand corner, commensurate with age, there was a small loss to the upper right hand corner, which I have had restored by a professional who dated the material to around 1850, during the reign of Tsar Nicholas I.
