The Sovereign Icon of the Mother of God. The Sovereign Icon of the Mother of God is a miraculous icon of the Mother of God venerated in the Russian Orthodox Church. According to the report of Metropolitan Tikhon of Moscow [1], it was found on March 2 (15), 1917, in the basement of the Ascension Church in the royal village of Kolomenskoye (now within the city limits of Moscow) [2].

The celebration of the icon takes place on the day of its appearance - March 2 (15). A peasant woman from the village of Pererva in the Bronnitsky district, Evdokia Andrianova, began to see the Virgin Mary in her dreams, who told her to go to Kolomenskoye and find a "black" (that is, old) icon there and make it "red" (restore it).

The peasant woman told the rector of the Ascension Church in Kolomenskoye about her dreams. After a long search in the church basements, a large icon blackened by time was found. An image of Christ on the knees of the Virgin Mary appeared on the board, and in the Virgin Mary's hands were the royal regalia, scepter and orb. In his report to the Synod about this event, Metropolitan Tikhon, in particular, wrote about the icon: According to information provided by a member of the Commission from the Church-Archaeological Department at the Moscow Society of Lovers of Spiritual Enlightenment - Archpriest Strakhov: the icon is not ancient, approximately from the end of the 18th century (no older), in shape (oval at the top) iconostasis, middle, from the third belt (prophetic).

According to the style of writing, the icon belongs to the type of Constantinople icons of the Mother of God. The icon probably remained from the iconostasis that was from the Ascension Church earlier than the current one and the famous archaeologist I. Snegirev reports about this iconostasis that it was once transferred from one of the churches of the Moscow Ascension Monastery [1]. Soon after its discovery, the icon was renovated in the workshops of the Moscow Alekseevsky Monastery. The icon is the main shrine of the Russian monarchists.
