The word ephemera is derived from the sixteenth century Greek word ephmera meaning a printed or hand written paper not meant to be retained for a long period of time. The Psalm was written in 1918 whilst trying to escape Revolutionary Russia, and was most probably written in miniature so as to be concealed inside a shirt sleeve and to give her protection from the Bolsheviks or a prayer.
