Antique Edwardian / late Victorian ring. 14k gold, demantoid and red Garnet. Made in Russia circa 1900. Measurements: Weight is 4.2 grams. Length of bezel is a little over 26mm.
Description : Elongated, navette shape - long, narrow oval with ends tapering to points. The center is a red garnet and the rest of the surface is pave set with round, Old European cut demantoid garnets. U-shaped gallery in gold on the sides holds the demantoid garnets. Subtle use and knowledge of gems, colors and contrasts. Red and green are complimentary colors, so the juxtapostion of the two types of garnets in these colors really'pop'.The slightly paler majority of demantoids are a perfect balance for the more intense red of the central stone. It all balances out very cleverly and most elegantly. While this ring was probably made for a woman, I can see an elegant gentleman wearing it most attractively, so it is suitable for either/any gender and will look fabulous with any outfit.
