Antique Imperial Russian 1878 Silver 84 Jewish Egg Wild Boars
This is a genuine Josef Sosnkowski egg fully appraised and valued by professionals. Please not Ive owned this egg for 2 years and over time the Silver has patina and as with all silver so its not shining bright like you see in the pictures now. All Silver does this over time I think when I got it in the condition it was perhaps professionally cleaned. Still a stunning piece though none the less.

Appraisal certificate available Valuation reference V623531-8. Antique Imperial 1878 Russian hunting egg. A Russian silver decorative egg on three scroll feet. The cover of the egg is decorated with a relief of a wild boar and has a pierced four sided knop. The interior has two model boar standing on a flat ground, the piece is marked Moscow 1878.

The egg is fully hallmarked. Makers Mark: propably Cyprian Labecki. This is in Great Condition. The Russian market is strong at the moment; the egg being a symbol of the resurrection in the Orthodox Church will add to the interest, these piece were given at Easter the most important date in the church calendar in Russia. The standard for Russian silver is measured in zolotniks: the most common fineness is 84, corresponding to 875/1000 standard.

Until the late 19th century silver items had a town mark, Assay Master mark with date, and a Makers mark (as well as the silver standard mark). In 1896, Tsar Nicholas II issued an edict and a new system of marking was introduced, known as the Kokoshnik mark (a cartouche containing a womans head, the silver fineness and the assayers initials). This system continued until the Revolution. Russian Imperial silver is renowned for its quality and peculiar style, often finely decorated with Enamel. I don't need to sell it for 10-20 + years myself or longer.
